Reading progress update: I've read 221 out of 307 pages.

Divergent - Veronica Roth

I am so sick of Tris calling herself "selfless". It's one of those stupid things where she's trying to shove it down my throat - "I'm selfless, I wish I could be less selfless, I'm too selfless for my own good, my selflessness is my weakness, I'm more selfless than they are, blah, blah, blah." Why not let me judge for myself? Why keep harping on it?

Incidentally, she is not selfless at all. I won't go into details here - the rest of my status updates have plenty of evidence. But the reason why she says it on page 221 is because she grabbed some bread, peas, and a chicken breast to eat.

A chicken breast IS NOT SELFLESS FOOD. It's usually people's favorite part of a chicken, it's big and juicy and it takes skill to cook and season it properly. Also, it's not one of those cheap, really filling foods that poor people eat. By eating a chicken breast, she's actually making sure that there's one less coveted chicken breast for the other hungry people.
